History of the origin of the breed American Pit Bull Terrier
American pitbull terrier comes from dogs brought to America by English and Irish immigrants in the late 18th, early 19th centuries.
Dog fights have always existed, but in moreFar times for this used dogs of different breeds, if only they were strong and had powerful jaws. This was the case until the end of the 17th century. These dogs were called bulldogs, although, strictly speaking, they did not represent any breed.
Attention! Do not confuse the pit bull terrier with the modern English bulldog. They are only his distant ancestors. The then English bulldog had longer and slender limbs and very muscular. They are completely different dogs. Only at the end of the 17th century was the idea of breeding a breed of dogs that could guarantee the transfer of inherited fighting qualities. First of all, it was about aggressiveness and insensitivity to pain, and also about strength, perseverance and dexterity.
The then Bulldogs are already largelyPossessed some of these qualities, but they lacked others. In particular, agility and aggressiveness. Therefore, it was conceived to cross bulldogs with dogs that genetically possessed similar qualities. In England, it could only be about one breed - the terrier. This dog is indeed the most aggressive. So there was a so-called bouillon and terrier.
But then it was too early to talk about the breed, becauseThat they thought only of fighting qualities, not attaching importance to the rest. Only in 1835, when the decree announcing the dogfights illegal was issued, the matter shifted from its place.
Of course, the mentality of fans of gambling shows has not changed, they continued to organize dog fights underground and, unfortunately, do so until now.
However, in those days it was already beginning to formOfficial cynology. Therefore, some people decided to bring out the exhibition breed of dogs on the basis of the Boulevard and Terrier, also smoothing their aggressiveness. This work led to the creation of the American
Staffordshire terrier, Staffordshire Bull TerrierAnd the bull terrier, which became practically a doghouse. However, other dog breeders did not intend to lose the characteristics typical of war dogs that represented a valuable genetic heritage in their view.
Of course, some of them were guided only byEconomic interests, because the battles were conducted in secret, and the winners' dogs brought huge sums of money. But for many others, this interest was purely professional, not to mention cultural traditions. Do not wrinkle your nose when the word culture is used in relation to dog fights, because in fact it would be too superficial to consider it barbarous. Especially if you imagine that such manifestations of true barbarism as any kind of hunting or bullfight are considered noble pursuits or even elite sports. And the bullfighters at home are glorified. They are an example for young people.
And when the defenders of animals raise their voices, theyAlways object that it is a cultural tradition. And in fact, this statement is difficult to refute, because the hero of this idea is not the one who kills, but the one who wins, demonstrating his courage and fearlessness. The admiration of courage and power throughout human history has never been questioned by any cultural era. And from this point of view, dog fights also acquire a different color.
In addition to economic considerations, people are driven byDesire to educate, train and own this clot of strength, perseverance, and endurance, investing in it more and more. Modern underground fight fans are only interested in money. They even force dogs of different weight and weight to fight, turning the spectacle into a real bloodshed.
This, of course, is barbarism. Opposite true lovers of dog fights adhered to clear rules: fights were arranged only between dogs of one weight, therefore they tried to bring up in the dog qualities that can be called masculine in the most exalted sense of the word. They needed a dog, personifying the legendary invincible warrior. In a word - a super hero. It's great that they succeeded.
