Breeding German Shepherd Eastern European type, history
History of the German Shepherd - Eastern European type
After the Great Patriotic War on the territory of the USSR, the restoration of the German shepherd's population began with almost a few dozen breed animals preserved by amateur dog breeders.
Most of the surviving in the army after the warThe dogs were used for manning border troops, internal troops, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and extra-departmental security. The dogs, suitable for pedigree work, were transferred to the dog-lovers to the clubs of official dog breeding DOSAAF for further breeding.
In the breeding breeding,Trophy dogs, trapped in the USSR from the military and police nurseries of defeated Germany. But unfortunately, in the bulk of these, mostly adult individuals were by their working and exterior qualities far from ideal.
Of the several hundred dogs imported intoPost-war period from abroad, very few of them were suitable for further development of the breed. The problem was that there was no qualified selection before export to the USSR, dogs were selected spontaneously, not very competent in these matters by breeders. One must also take into account the fact that during the Second World War, both in Germany and in other countries of Western Europe, a significant part of German shepherds with good working qualities perished.
In the post-war period, Soviet official dog breeding had quite definite tasks: German Shepherd breeding and training dogs, Suitable in the future for the search, sentry, escort and other services in adverse climatic conditions.
To service dogs were presented higherRequirements for endurance, strength, unpretentiousness to the conditions of detention, because many areas of the former Soviet Union are significantly different from Western European climatic conditions. In winter, frost in Russia and a lot of snow, and in summer - hot and high grass. Therefore, when selecting dogs for further breeding breeding, Soviet specialists preferred dogs of higher growth and dry build.
European dog breeders were not interestedIn the breeding of guard dogs, the so-called "malicious overgrown". They led the selection in order to remove a light, but very mobile dog with a balanced character. All this, according to Western dog breeders, was the basis for good training and the possibility of further use in a variety of services.
In the 1970s, work wasEastern European type of German Shepherd (German Shepherd). Cynologists of that time denied the shortcomings of the East Europeans - looseness, heaviness, straight shoulders, straightness, upturned legs. But the staff of the border and other troops noted the difficulties in using such dogs for official purposes. As a result, the Eastern European type was declared bankrupt, and the breeders started breeding using imported producers, mainly from the German Democratic Republic.
These dogs were already significantly different from dogsEastern European type. However, they were not the best specimens of the German Shepherd breed and were not used in breeding very widely. But they had good working qualities, which gave more opportunities in the trail (search) service.
In the 1980s, despite the limitedThe use of imported producers, from mating with Eastern European females, received interesting litters of puppies that had smaller growth and anatomically improved structure of the body.
However, these pilot activities could notTo substantially approximate the structure of dogs of the Eastern European type of the German shepherd to those bred in her homeland in Germany and other countries of Western Europe. At the exhibitions of that time in the USSR, even separate rings of the German and Eastern European sheepdogs were held. However, in the rings of German shepherds, the level and competition were much higher.
After the first All-Union Exhibition of German and East European Vocals in Moscow in 1989. Standard of the East European (German) Shepherd, Used by DOSAAF, was canceled. Since that time, the advantages of a true German shepherd have no longer been questioned by most amateur dog breeders and professional dog handlers.
From this moment, an extended deliveryMales and bitches from the countries of Europe, mating with imported males, major international exhibitions are held, judging is carried out by judges from the Federal Republic of Germany and other European countries, and seminars on the breed are held. All this contributed to the improvement and further popularization of the German Shepherd.
The Eastern European Shepherd was pushed to the background and gradually almost forgotten, in my opinion, completely deserved.
Eastern European Shepherd Dog - in-breed typeGerman shepherd, the result of long-term, targeted selection, planned breeding, selection, long, carefully thought-out selection work.
It is possible to talk long and quite rightly aboutShortcomings and virtues of the Eastern European Shepherd. But still it's a matter of taste and personal preferences of everyone. In any breed there are pluses and minuses. And that's why any breed deserves attention and respect. And the more so the Eastern European shepherd, who occupied a huge niche in our cynological culture for more than 80 years and achieved good results in cynological sport.
